Gerard WebsterGerard Webster

Part 1: A butterfly flaps its wings
Dr Gerard Webster will consider the cases of men who cause irreparable harm to children by sexually abusing them and, in so doing, bring irreparable harm upon themselves and their loved ones. Gerard will begin the seminar with an overview of Psychoanalytic Complexity Theory and demonstrate its value in understanding and providing psychoanalytic treatment to child sexual offenders.

Dr Gerard Webster is a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst as well as a Forensic and Counselling Psychologist who has worked with child, adolescent, and adult victims and perpetrators of child sexual abuse for thirty-five years. He undertook his psychoanalytic training at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Los Angeles earning him the degree of Doctor of Psychoanalysis. He went on to complete a PhD in psychoanalysis so he could explore the theoretical underpinnings of Psychoanalytic Complexity Theory, anchoring his research in the clinical phenomena of paedophilia. Gerard is a past-president of IARPP-Australia and continues to serve on IARPP’s Child and Family Committee.

The Australian Chapter of IARPP International is pleased to announce its 2020 Seminar Series. The seminars will continue our exploration of Relational theories and practice, and will be of interest to both beginning and more experienced clinicians. Over the last few years we’ve experimented with different formats involving single and multiple presentations; this year we hope to provide opportunities to engage more deeply with three international speakers who will each present two seminars: Robert Grossmark, Ginna Clarke and Steven Stern.
